Laguna Beach senior Ryan Smithers and junior Logan Brooks placed second and seventh in the Division 4 boys final, leading the Breakers to their first championship since 2009 with a 68-97 victory over Sir Francis Drake at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Smithers covered the 5-kilometer course in 15:27.8 and Brooks ran 15:48.7 for Laguna Beach, which had four athletes in the top 20 and all five scorers in the top 45.
